Are there any non-profit activities that the Hemingway Foundation does not support?

Yes, the Foundation only makes grants to those activities covered in our grant funding priority areas.

Is an application necessary?

Yes, the Foundation requires that every request be made through the Foundation’s online application system.

How often can an organization apply for grants?

The Foundation will review only one grant request per year from any organization.

Are there deadlines for filing grant applications?

Yes, deadlines for submission are stated for each funding cycle.  View important dates for more information.

Do you accept applications by mail in addition to the online system?

No, all applications, letters of inquiry and final reports must be submitted online beginning in 2016.  Only final reports for grants awarded prior to 2016 will be accepted in paper format. The online portal will accept Letters of Inquiry from organizations in 2017 from January 9 through February 28 only.  There will be NO other application periods during 2017.

Our organization is headquartered in Utah, but the program is in a foreign country, can we apply?

No, only programs that provide services in Utah and Idaho are considered within our geographic area. There are no exceptions in our competitive process.  Occasionally a discretionary gift will be made to an organization that falls outside of our geographic or funding priority area, but no applications are solicited outside of stated priorities or for organizations or services outside of Utah and Idaho.
